Back to the ski hill we go!

Snow Valley had a half price day on Sunday so Moe and I decided to take advantage of the deal - cheaper than taking the girls to a movie with snacks! So after a Saturday night sleep over and dealing with the time change, we headed off early, early to beat the mobs that we were sure were going to be taking advantage of the deal. Not so much. it wasn't crowded at all. I think people were deterred by the warm temps and the rain of the day before -- but there was LOTS of snow to be had in the valley.

We got up there about 9 am and discovered that we were four of the few who were eager (or crazy) to be on this adventure. The girls were old pros now and knew the drill about their equipment. They got registered in Discovering Skiing 1 again and went to their lesson which ended up being virtually private b.c there were so few people there. Almost seemed like they had more staff than skiers.

After about 5 runs down the little hills they had conquered a month ago, they were taken to the next station, a steeper and longer hill, but away from where Moe and I were watching. My fear was that the next thing I'd see was the two of them waving to us from a chair lift. Moe reassured me there would be another level to pass before that happened.

On this hill they had to refine their skills and really show that they had control of their speed and their turns in anticipation of the higher and longer runs to come. After lunch and a wardrobe change because Julia was so hot - now she was skiing in a fleece and a vest and NO mitts -- Julia came down the "baby" hill -- the one with the Dora cut outs -- really so babyish to her --- with "something important to tell me". Because we had switched coats she didn't have her lift ticket on her jacket, so I thought that is what all the excitement was about, and partly it was.

My ski missy had taken it upon herself to ask one of the teachers about getting on the chair lift - she was bored with this run apparently. The instructor told her "sure" once she had passed a final test and got her lift ticket punched. WHAAATTTTT! So down she came to get the ticket.

Again - a bit of panic set in which Moe was able to calm b/c what she knew from taking kids from her school here was that we would need to upgrade our day pass and another lesson would be required to prove that they could handle the chair lift hills and the chair lifts themselves. WHEW!

But all Julia heard was there was a test to pass that would lead to the next level of excitement and that was good enough for her. So a few more runs and then the test happened, and two proud girls came to show us their punch.

Sooooo... March Break may see the ski bunnies off again for one more day of skiing this season. If that happens, then after the lesson it will be Moe and Guy taking them up the hills on the lift and bringing them down the hill, hopefully not at breakneck speed. And I the non-skiing mom, definitely will be sedated in the chalet.

Being a skier myself I wish I had pushed MacLean to learn to ski because I do miss it. She is unsure she wants to try now but maybe next season. Hope you have a fun March Break we are off to Mels on Sunday in Aurora and then to Ottawa Mon. Back to TO on Friday to stay at the Delta Chelsea and then Sound of Music on Sat. Looking forward to it but wish we were all together in Floriday again! SIGH
Take care friends and safe travel.
