For those of you out of the adoption loop that means Log-in Date -- the date FOUR years ago that my adoption dossier for DD#2 (Darling Daughter #2) was registered at the Chinese Centre for Adoption Affairs in Beijing.
This means that had I not decided to withdraw my application for this adoption, I'd still be waiting for a referral.
Four years later.
I was originally in Group 264 for this second adoption. Julia's group was 140.
There are families around the world, also logged in May of 2006, who have stayed the course and patiently wait for their number to be called.
Four years later.
No one anticipated this kind of wait -- hard on those families who don't have any children to distract them from the pains of waiting. Hard too on the siblings who wait for a baby sister.
Julia was one of those almost siblings. She stopped asking "WHY?" about a year ago. She's come to understand that we are the family of two, small in number, but mighty in love.
When I was doing my big spring purge a few weeks ago, I came across this, a Christmas ornament I had made in 2006 to let DD#2, who would be known as Maeve, that we were thinking of her.
I still think about her.
Four years later.
I think I'll put it on the tree next Christmas - to commemorate one stage in our life as a family.
My guess is that families still waiting will hear something in the early fall. That's my wish for them.
I hate to think of them all still waiting more than that.

Oh Anne Marie. What a beautiful, heartfelt yet heartbreaking tribute. I'm so sad for you and Julia, and also for that little girl out there somewhere who would have been a part of your beautiful loving family.

You are the most wonderful mother. I cannot help thinking that somewhere out there, that little girl is going to be doubly blessed in her life ... that you are still surrounding her with your thoughts and prayers and love.
