80 years young

Yesterday my dad celebrated his 80th birthday.

That's quite a number to get your head around.

He always said he thought it would be a great accomplishment if he made it to that age, considering his father died at a young age. He's a man of many accomplishments, but this is one that seemed to mean a lot to him. And it means so much more to all of us to have him here with us, alive and kicking.

So, Dad you can cross the 80th thing off your bucket list.

Julia and I arrived Friday night and surprized Dad as he was on his way to bed.  Carmel had kept it a secret that we were coming home -- as if we'd let such a milestone pass. Noreen and Shaun arrived the next day with Owen and Jack, so most of the clan were there.

On Saturday Julia and I took Papa to see the Disney Earth Day release of Ocean - a wonderful film to sea - hee heeWe had lovely dinner at Carmel's. Thanks to Ralph for another wonderful BBQ. Of course we missed having Nana, Katie, Maggie and Christine with us to celebrate.

I was home sans camera, but not too worry there are some great shots below. I'm working on a proper photo tribute in my mind, a retrospective of sorts. But in the meantime, Owen managed to pull off some computer wizardry inspired  by Shaun's great sense of humour to pay tribute to Papa with some classic movie and TV moments.

Here you have Johnny and Sarah -- aka Bonnie and Clyde
it took us a while to see through our tears of laughter
that my mom was featured in this one.
She's giving Faye Dunaway a run for her money,
and Dad is a dapper body double for Warren Beatty, don't you think.
Big family tradition of ours back-in-the-day was to enjoy the classic family drama, The Waltons. Here's Owen's version of John Boy Walton.
In honour of the playoffs...

And aren't we lucky there's that little Irish film from a few years ago
that we could use to pay tribute to Dad.
But this had to be our favourite. We were in tears with this one.
It's a scene from the movie that on its own is hiliarious.
Imagine our delight when Shaun thought of including this one.

Happy birthday, Dad! We love you!

Your Dad looks like a character (just like his daughter!). Glad you had a great celebration together... the photos are hilarious.
