What a wonderful way to start family weekend - Julia and I were able to get to Waterloo to celebrate Jack's confirmation.
Julia and the newly confirmed Elmo share a moment.
We captured these moments on the TV -
big cheers for our Canadian athletes.
Julia exclaimed when she saw them coming in,
"Hey, they are wearing my hat!"
She was right -- she does have the Canada toque.
And she will wear it proudly in three weeks while we are in China--
Of course, after being part of two torch runs in December
Julia and I were very excited to see the opening ceremonies.
And to see the cousins.
And together for the evening, we believed.
We felt part of all the torch had come to mean
during its journey across Canada.
We were 6 of the 23 million Canadians who tuned into watch some of the big event.
We cheered as teams from China and Ireland and of course, Canada came into the stadum,
we were solemn as we watched the team from Georgia make their brave walk,
we oooed and ahhhed over the spectacular visual effects, and
held our collective breath when the torch mechanism experienced
some technical difficulties.
An Olympic hug with Maggie, sporting my Olympic gear.

What a great post! Well said!
It was a wonderful way to start the Family Day weekend and it was a magical evening...
Way to go, Canada!
We're on the same blogging theme! Laughed out loud at Butterscotch's involvement.
I felt so proud of Canada...until I saw Gretsky on the back of a pickup truck.
Love the olympics - love the cheering and patriotism. We need more reasons to clap and cheer for Canada
